The Seeds In A Cup® Zinnia Grow Kit | Seeds In A Cup® kit is a beginner-friendly indoor growing kit that includes non-GMO seeds, premium potting soil, a recyclable planter, and step-by-step instructions.

Zinnias are the kind of flower that makes a garden feel alive. Bold, fast-growing, and absolutely covered in color from midsummer through fall, they're one of the most rewarding flowers you can grow from seed — and one of the easiest. The Seeds In A Cup® Zinnia Grow Kit is for the beginner who wants a guaranteed win, the apartment dweller who wants a pop of color on the balcony, the gardener who wants to attract butterflies and pollinators, and anyone looking for a cheerful, low-effort gift. It's a great housewarming present, a teacher appreciation gift, a Mother's Day surprise, or a simple way to brighten up a patio or porch. Growing zinnias from seed beats buying a plant because you get more blooms, more variety, and the satisfaction of knowing you started it yourself.

What's Inside

  • Premium Non-GMO Zinnia Seeds (Zinnia elegans) — Batch-tested for high germination rates, responsibly sourced in the USA.
  • Nutrient-Rich Potting Soil — Real loose premium potting soil, pre-measured and ready to use. Hand-packed in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Recyclable Planter Cup with Lid — 100% recyclable eco-friendly planter. The lid serves as a humidity dome during germination and a saucer afterward.
  • Illustrated Growing Instructions — Clear, beginner-friendly step-by-step guide. Made in the USA.

How to Grow

  1. Fill the cup — Pour the included soil into the planter, leaving about ½ inch from the top.
  2. Sow the seeds — Zinnia seeds are sown about ¼ inch deep. Press gently into the soil and cover lightly. ⚑ Flag for review: confirm exact sow depth for the specific zinnia variety included.
  3. Water gently — Moisten the soil thoroughly. Keep consistently damp during germination — zinnias like warmth and moisture to sprout.
  4. Provide warmth and light — Zinnias germinate best in warm conditions (65–70°F+). A sunny windowsill or warm spot indoors works well to start.
  5. Germination window — Zinnias are fast sprouters: expect seedlings in 5–10 days under good conditions.
  6. Transplant outdoors — Once seedlings are 2–3 inches tall and nighttime temps are consistently above 50°F, transplant to a sunny outdoor spot or larger container. Zinnias thrive in full sun and bloom prolifically through summer and fall.

How It Compares

Ways to Use It

  • Patio or balcony container garden — Start indoors, then transplant to a large pot on your balcony or patio. Zinnias bloom all summer and attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
  • Cut flower garden gift — Zinnias make excellent cut flowers. Give this kit to someone who loves fresh flowers in the house — they'll be cutting their own bouquets by midsummer.
  • Classroom pollinator project — Teach students about pollinators, flower anatomy, and the life cycle of an annual. Zinnias are fast enough to show real progress within a school unit.

Questions Customers Ask

Q: Can I grow zinnias indoors permanently?
A: Zinnias are sun-lovers and do best outdoors or in a very bright, warm indoor space. They're ideal for starting indoors and transplanting outside once the weather warms up.

Q: When should I start zinnias from seed?
A: Start indoors 4–6 weeks before your last frost date, or direct-sow outdoors after frost danger has passed. In most of the US, that's April through May.

Q: Do zinnias come back every year?
A: Zinnias are annuals — they complete their life cycle in one season. But they self-seed readily, so you may find new plants popping up the following year in the same spot.

Q: Are zinnias safe for pets?
A: Zinnias (Zinnia elegans) are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
